The film “It Ends with Us” is an adaptation of the 2016 romance novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover. It is directed by Justin Baldoni and written by Christy Hall. The film stars Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton, and Brandon Sklenar.
The film follows Lily, a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to start a new life. She meets and falls for a charming neurosurgeon named Ryle, but begins to see concerning sides of him that remind her of her parents’ abusive relationship.
The film is expected to explore mature themes like domestic violence and abuse, similar to the controversial portrayal in the original novel. There has been some backlash from fans about the age difference between the actors and their book counterparts, but the author has explained this was an intentional change.
“It Ends with Us” is scheduled to be released theatrically on August 9, 2024 by Sony Pictures Releasing. The film was affected by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which temporarily paused production.
