Kareena Kapoor’s Book Title Sparks Controversy Over “Bible” Usage

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has found herself embroiled in a legal tussle over the title of her 2021 pregnancy memoir, “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible.” An advocate named Christopher Anthony has filed a petition with the Madhya Pradesh High Court, objecting to the use of the word “Bible” in the book’s title, alleging that it hurts the religious sentiments of the Christian community.

The Petitioner’s Argument

According to the reports, Anthony, a social worker from Jabalpur, argues that the Bible is the holy book of Christianity worldwide, and it is inappropriate to compare Kareena Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy experience with the sacred text. He claims that the actress used the word “Bible” to gain “cheap publicity” for her book, which chronicles her journey as an expectant mother and offers tips for other pregnant women.

Court’s Intervention

In response to the petition, a single-judge bench of Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia issued a notice to Kareena Kapoor Khan, seeking an explanation for her decision to use the word “Bible” in the book’s title. The court has also issued notices to the book’s sellers, as the petitioner has demanded a ban on its sale.

The Legal Battle

Anthony’s petition seeks to register a case against Kareena Kapoor Khan and the book’s publishers for their alleged disrespect towards the Christian community. However, his initial attempt to file an FIR against the actress was rejected by the police. Undeterred, he approached a lower court to file a complaint, but his request was denied on the grounds that he failed to establish how the use of the word “Bible” in the title was offensive. The Additional Sessions Court also dismissed his petition, prompting him to move the High Court.
