Mani Ratnam Makes History as the First Tamil Director on the Oscar Panel

With his extensive contributions to the Indian film industry, Mani Ratnam holds a position of great influence. In a recent development, Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, has recently announced the addition of 398 new members to the esteemed Oscar committee. Now, Mani Ratnam makes history as the first Tamil director on the Oscar panel. Renowned music composer AR Rahman recently congratulated filmmaker Mani Ratnam for his induction into the esteemed Oscar panel.

The Academy recently unveiled a list of 398 new members, featuring several prominent Indian names. Karan Johar, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Mani Ratnam, Siddharth Roy Kapoor, MM Keeravani, Chandrabose, etc.

Mani Ratnam Directed Acclaimed Films

Renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam is known for directing critically acclaimed movies such as “Poniyin Selvan,” “Dil Se,” “OK Kanmani,” “Raavan,” “Guru,” “Yuva,” and “Mouna Ragam.”

He made his directorial debut in 1983 with the Kannada film titled “Pallavi Anu Pallavi.” In 1986, he gained nationwide recognition three years later with his movie “Mouna Ragam,” featuring the talented actor Kamal Haasan. This particular movie marked a significant milestone in the history of Tamil cinema.
