Rajinikanth’s Nostalgic Visit to Bengaluru Bus Depot Where he Once Worked

In a heartwarming moment, superstar Rajinikanth paid a surprise visit to a BMTC bus depot in Bengaluru on Tuesday, where he once worked as a bus conductor in his early days before becoming an actor.

The 72-year old legendary actor took everyone by surprise when he walked into the Jayanagar bus depot of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). He spent a few minutes chatting with the delighted drivers, conductors and staff, who mobbed him excitedly.

Rajinikanth, whose real name is Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, worked as a bus conductor with BMTC earlier known as Bangalore Transport Service (BTS) in the 1970s before K Balachander gave him his first film break in ‘Aboorva Raagangal’ in 1975.

The superstar turned nostalgic during his visit and posed for selfies with the TTMC staff. Witnesses said he had a smile on his face as he reminisced about his days as a bus conductor.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Rajinikanth was born in Bangalore and lived in the city until age 22 before moving to Chennai to pursue an acting career.

Prior to films, he entertained passengers and earned praise for his flair while issuing tickets and returning change. Passengers would often skip buses just to ride in the one where he was on duty.

He started acting in Kannada plays, notably as Duryodhan in a staging of Mahabharata. Director K Balachander then cast him in a Tamil film after being impressed by one of his stage performances.

Rajinikanth’s Film Career

Rajinikanth made his debut in 1975 with ‘Apoorva Raagangal’ and has since acted in over 160 films over a career spanning more than 4 decades.

He is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars and has a large fan following across India. His latest film ‘Jailer’ released this month and has reportedly grossed over ₹600 crores worldwide.

The nostalgic visit to his old workplace shows the actor has not forgotten his humble roots despite massive success. It was a touching moment for staff to interact with the superstar who was once just a fellow bus conductor like them.
