Shah Rukh Khan Gets Y+ Security Cover Amid Threats Over Films

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been provided with Y+ security cover by the Maharashtra government following threats he received over his latest films.

Levels of Security Cover

The level of security cover provided by the government depends on the assessed threat level. The categories include X, Y, Z, and Z+ security.

Y+ security, granted to Khan, involves 11 security personnel – 5 at his residence and 6 personal security officers in shifts. They will be armed and accompany him at all times. An escort vehicle will also be provided.

Higher levels like Z and Z+ have more personnel, commandos, and vehicles. The cover is based on recommendations by security agencies.

Khan to Get Security Cover

As per reports, the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department informed police units about providing Y+ security to Khan citing a probable threat.

This comes after Khan reportedly received threats from some groups over content in his films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’. His bungalow Mannat’s security was also increased some months back after a security breach incident.

The superstar will now be protected by 11 security personnel round the clock, including 6 police commandos equipped with sophisticated weapons. He will pay for this security cover himself.

Security for Other Celebrities

Earlier, actor Salman Khan was also given Y+ security after threats from a gang. Kangana Ranaut became the first Bollywood actor last year to get Y+ cover, generally given to top politicians.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri too was provided the cover after allegedly receiving threats over his film ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Khan’s Recent Films

Shah Rukh Khan returned to films after 4 years with ‘Pathaan’ this January. The action film emerged as a huge blockbuster, grossing over ₹1000 crore worldwide.

His next film ‘Jawan’, slated for 2023, has also crossed ₹1000 crore in gross collection already.

The superstar enjoys a massive fan following globally. While his films’ success has brought immense joy to his fans, it has unfortunately also resulted in security threats from fringe groups.

Providing Y+ security to Shah Rukh Khan appears a prudent move by the Maharashtra government to ensure his safety and enable him to continue enthralling fans with his films.
