Sridevi’s Tragic Passing: New Details Emerge on her Health and Final Days

Iconic Indian actress Sridevi passed away suddenly in February 2018, shocking her legions of fans. She accidentally drowned in her hotel bathtub while visiting Dubai for a family wedding. In the years since, many questions and conspiracies have swirled about the circumstances surrounding her shocking death at just 54 years old. Now, in a revealing new interview, Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor has opened up for the first time about his wife’s health issues, crash dieting, and the final days leading up to her untimely demise.

A Dangerous Obsession with Dieting

According to Boney, Sridevi became obsessive over crash dieting and severely restricting her food intake. She fixated on staying slim and “looking good” on camera, desperately wanting to appear youthful and slender in her films as she entered her 50s. Boney revealed that she would starve herself, avoid salt entirely, and whittle her weight down to dangerously low levels around 100 lbs.

Her extreme dieting reportedly led to frightening health episodes even before her death. Boney disclosed that she had a history of sudden “blackouts” and fainting due to low blood pressure. Their family doctor had warned her repeatedly about the risks of her restrictive diet and begged her to stop fasting and start consuming more salt. But she refused to listen, obsessed with maintaining her svelte figure at all costs.

Dangerous Behavior Fueled by Industry Pressure

While Sridevi shoulders some blame for recklessly crash dieting, Boney also spoke about the immense pressures female Indian movie stars face to stay eternally youthful and slim. He hinted that the industry’s unrealistic beauty standards fueled his wife’s dangerous fixation on her weight and diet. Many fans have accused film producers and directors of perpetuating unhealthy expectations that may have contributed to Sridevi’s shocking decline in health.

The Tragic Accident in Dubai

In February 2018, Sridevi traveled with her family to Dubai for a wedding. She continued her disordered eating habits while there, refusing food and salt according to Boney. On the fateful night of February 24th, home alone in her hotel bathroom, she lost consciousness in the tub and tragically drowned. Boney recounted the chaotic 48 hours after her death, during which he was interrogated by Dubai police who suspected foul play.

After an investigation and toxicology report found that her death was accidental, authorities cleared Boney of any wrongdoing. But conspiracy theories persisted in Indian media. Boney passed polygraph tests and staunchly maintains his innocence, stating that his wife’s reckless crash dieting led to her untimely accidental death.

A Cautionary Tale for the Industry

While nothing can bring back the beloved cinematic legend, Sridevi’s passing stands as a cautionary tale about the immense pressures aging actresses face and the extremes they will undertake to achieve unrealistic standards. Her legacy lives on through her iconic film roles spanning five decades. May her tragic death remind the industry to celebrate healthy beauty and put an end to dangerous practices that put female stars’ lives at risk. Sridevi was a brilliant talent taken too soon, and her loss is still felt by millions of fans worldwide.
