The Future Looks Bright for ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’

The beloved Planet of the Apes franchise is back with an all-new installment that promises to take audiences on an epic adventure to a futuristic world where apes rule supreme. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes serves as a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 film War for the Planet of the Apes, which concluded the gripping Caesar trilogy. Directed by Wes Ball of Maze Runner fame, Kingdom transports viewers hundreds of years into the future after the events of the last film to focus on a new ape hero named Noa and his quest to protect a young human girl in a world where humans have regressed back into primitive beings.

Return of a Blockbuster Franchise

Ever since the 1968 original starring Charlton Heston crash landed on the big screen, the Planet of the Apes series has captured the imaginations of moviegoers with its high-concept storylines that blend sci-fi, action and social commentary. The 2011 franchise reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a surprise smash hit, praised for its jaw-dropping special effects and emotional story. That film spawned two extremely popular sequels, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, which together grossed over $1.6 billion at the global box office. Kingdom looks to reignite audience passion for this beloved series.

A Stellar Pedigree On and Off Screen

Producers Peter Chernin and star Jason Reed are also franchise veterans. Of course the most exciting returnee is director Wes Ball, who displayed his talents for directing large scale sci-fi adventures and creating emotionally resonant stories with the Maze Runner trilogy. Ball has assembled a stellar international cast led by up-and-comers Owen Teague and Freya Allan alongside veteran actor Kevin Durand as the villainous Proximus Caesar. The impressive special effects will be provided by the legendary Weta Digital studio.
