The Unlikely Bond: Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta Share Tales from the Set of ‘Mast Mein Rehne Ka’

Loneliness and second chances take center stage in Prime Video’s latest Hindi original film ‘Mast Mein Rehne Ka’. Lead stars Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta opened up about the movie, their characters, and heartwarming memories from the set.

Exploring Universal Themes

Scheduled to premiere on December 8, ‘Mast Mein Rehne Ka’ examines the parallel lives of two lonely individuals from different generations. Shroff portrays Kamath, a 75-year-old man struggling with isolation after outliving his friends. His mundane routine gets disrupted by the vivacious Mrs. Handa (played by Gupta), a bold Punjabi woman who returns to India after her husband’s death.

Director Vijay Maurya adapted the script from his own long-developed concept. He shared his excitement about finally bringing this Mumbai story to life with the support of Prime Video. Centered around universal topics like second chances, forgiveness and companionship, the film promises to resonate with many viewers.

Understanding the Characters

Shroff explains that his regimented character experiences upheaval with Mrs. Handa’s lively presence, comparing her to an earthquake. Meanwhile, Gupta’s Mrs. Handa relishes her newfound independence, often laughing uncontrollably and enjoying everyday pleasures like cooking or shopping. Her warm friendship with Kamath changes his dreary life.

Both actors clearly understood and connected deeply with their roles in the film. Gupta highlighted the importance of hope, encouraging women especially to make empowering choices without shame or ego.

Treasured Moments

When asked about favorite memories from the ‘Mast Mein Rehne Ka’ shoot, Shroff insisted every moment working with Gupta left an impression. He specifically recalled engaging conversations in which Gupta’s remarks would spark song lyrics in his mind. Gupta also cherished their daily interactions, sharing a funny anecdote about Shroff advising her to eat toast with sugar.

Director Maurya could not single out one defining shoot day either, maintaining that the entire filming experience marked a momentous chapter in his career. Clearly, the bonds formed during this project made the journey uniquely special for the cast and crew.

The only title on both lead actors’ Prime Video watchlists? Their very own ‘Mast Mein Rehne Ka’, releasing on the streaming platform soon. With Gupta and Shroff’s palpable chemistry and insight into lonely yet determined characters, the film promises to touch many hearts.
