Vivek Agnihotri Finds Shah Rukh Khan’s Recent Films ‘Superficial’ But Praises South Cinema

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has shared his views on superstar Shah Rukh Khan‘s recent films like ‘Pathaan‘ and ‘Jawan‘ in a recent interview. Though Agnihotri did not name the films directly, he said he found Khan’s latest releases to be “very superficial”.

Agnihotri’s Candid Views on SRK’s Films

In an interview on Siddharth Kannan’s talk show, Agnihotri said “I think his recent films are very superficial. He can do far better than that.” He added “To present them as a standard of filmmaking and that this is the end of show business, I don’t agree with that. Then I think it’s a sycophancy. I have a problem with that.” Agnihotri shared that Khan’s fans have also attacked him on social media in the past.

Though Agnihotri critiqued Khan’s recent cinematic choices, he had praised the trailer of ‘Jawan’ earlier this year. He had called the trailer “Adbhut. Mind blowing. Blockbuster written all over it.” This highlights Agnihotri’s focus remains on creative content rather than personalities.

Appreciation for South Cinema’s Grounded Stars

In the same interview, Agnihotri showered praise on South cinema and its biggest stars. He expressed admiration for Rajinikanth’s down-to-earth persona saying “He moves around with no pretence. He’s my idol.”

He also appreciated Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s humble nature revealed in a recent viral photo. Agnihotri said “I saw Chiranjeevi walking around wearing a chappal. I like that. I don’t like arrogant behaviour.” This indicates the filmmaker’s inclination towards stars who avoid affectation.

Vivek Agnihotri’s Focus on Creative Content

With films like ‘The Tashkent Files’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’ which spotlighted lesser-known historical events, Agnihotri has established himself as a filmmaker focused on bringing compelling creative content to the screen.

His latest release ‘The Vaccine War’ follows the same inventive path by chronicling Indian scientists’ contribution in developing Covid vaccines. As Agnihotri continues crafting cinema around India’s hidden triumphs, his future projects will reveal if his own filmmaking reaches the same creative heights he expects from others.
