Ranveer Singh Banned by FWICE: The Don 3 Fallout That has Bollywood Talking

The Bollywood industry has seen its fair share of behind-the-scenes drama, but the clash between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment over Don 3 has taken an unprecedented turn — one that could reshape how actors and producers deal with each other for years to come.

What Happened? The Don 3 Exit That Started It All

For months, Don 3 was shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Bollywood reboots in recent memory. Ranveer Singh had been attached to the project as the new face of the iconic franchise — stepping into shoes previously filled by Amitabh Bachchan and then Shah Rukh Khan. Big expectations. Bigger stakes.

Then, just three weeks before the unit was set to leave for the shoot, Ranveer walked away.

According to FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, Excel Entertainment filed a formal complaint on April 11th, accusing the actor of abandoning the project at the worst possible moment — after months of scheduling adjustments, pre-production spend, and logistical planning had already been locked in.

Ranveer’s Reasons: Script Issues and Lack of Advance

Ranveer Singh hasn’t spoken publicly, but sources close to him have been vocal. The actor reportedly exited due to genuine creative concerns — chiefly that director Farhan Akhtar never had a bound script ready. As someone who prefers working with fully developed material, Ranveer felt he couldn’t commit to a project where core storylines remained unresolved.

On top of that, he reportedly never received an advance payment and wasn’t compensated for time he had already blocked out, including other projects he had passed on to keep his schedule open for Don 3.

In short, his camp sees this less as a walkout and more as a response to unprofessionalism on the production side.

Excel Entertainment Fires Back: Rs 45 Crore in Damages

Farhan Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment, sees things very differently.

The producers have reportedly demanded approximately Rs 45 crore from the actor to cover pre-production losses — costs that piled up over months of preparation, scheduling adjustments, and confirmed commitments that Ranveer had given at various stages of development.

Excel argues that the script had been discussed and agreed upon at every stage of the process, directly contradicting claims about an unfinished screenplay.

With both sides firmly dug in, informal talks — reportedly involving senior industry figures — failed to produce a resolution.

FWICE Steps In: The Non-Cooperation Order Explained

When mediation efforts went nowhere, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees decided to act.

On Monday, FWICE announced a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh — effectively a ban — instructing its members across the industry not to work with the actor until the dispute is formally resolved. The announcement came after the federation said Ranveer had repeatedly ignored requests to appear before them and present his side of the matter.

Ashoke Pandit didn’t mince words, calling the situation symptomatic of a worrying trend where actors commit to projects and then pull out at the last minute, leaving hundreds of crew members — many of them daily wage workers — in the lurch.

“Such incidents are becoming a trend and it needs to stop,” Pandit stated, making clear that FWICE was taking a stand not just for producers but for the thousands of below-the-line workers who suffer the most when big films collapse.

Ranveer’s Silence Speaks Volumes

In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Ranveer Singh said he holds deep respect for the film fraternity and has chosen to remain silent on the matter for now.

It’s a carefully calibrated response — neither confrontational nor conciliatory. Whether it signals a behind-the-scenes negotiation in progress or simply a strategy to avoid escalating the conflict publicly remains to be seen.

The Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan Sideshows

As with any major Bollywood controversy, the rumour mill went into overdrive.

Speculation emerged that Aamir Khan had stepped in to mediate, following a reported meeting at his Mumbai residence involving several industry figures. Khan promptly denied any involvement, clarifying he had no hand in the dispute whatsoever.

Meanwhile, reports suggested Farhan Akhtar had considered approaching Hrithik Roshan for the role — a rumour that gained traction partly because of the timing with Dhurandhar‘s box-office success. Hrithik too issued a denial, stating he was never approached and urging the media to avoid unverified reporting.

Why This Case Matters Beyond Don 3

Strip away the star names and what you’re left with is a fundamental question the industry has long avoided answering clearly: when an actor exits a project without a signed, enforceable contract, who bears the loss?

India’s entertainment industry runs largely on trust, verbal commitments, and relationships. Formal contracts — with penalty clauses and dispute mechanisms — are often deprioritised in the excitement of getting a big name on board. The Don 3 situation exposes exactly how expensive that informality can get.

FWICE’s decision to issue a non-cooperation order sends a signal that the days of consequence-free exits may be numbered. Whether this particular ban holds, gets challenged, or ends in a negotiated settlement, it has already forced the industry to confront a conversation it should have had much earlier.

What’s Next?

The ban remains in effect until the dispute is resolved. Ranveer Singh’s upcoming projects and professional engagements could be impacted if FWICE members adhere to the directive. As of now, Don 3 remains in limbo — without a lead actor, a confirmed timeline, or a resolution in sight.

For Bollywood watchers, this is one to keep an eye on. The way this saga ends — whether in court, in a private settlement, or with a public reconciliation — could well set the template for how the industry handles star-producer disputes for a generation.
