Arrest Warrant Issued Against Bollywood Actress Zareen Khan in Alleged Cheating Case

A court in Kolkata has issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood actress Zareen Khan in connection with an alleged cheating case dating back to 2016. The case involves Zareen’s failure to appear at several Durga Puja events in Kolkata and North 24 Parganas, West Bengal that year.

Background of the Case

In 2016, Zareen Khan was contracted by an event management company to appear at 6 Kali Puja events around Kolkata and North 24 Parganas. However, the actress did not show up at any of these scheduled events.

Subsequently, the event company filed a police complaint at Narkeldanga Police Station accusing Zareen and her manager of cheating. The investigating officer filed charges against Zareen before the Sealdah court in Kolkata based on this complaint.

When questioned by the police back in 2016, Zareen claimed she had been misled by the organizers about the scale of the events and the attendees. She alleged she was told senior ministers including the Chief Minister would attend, but later found out they were small events.

Arrest Warrant Issued Due to Non-Appearance

Despite being charged in the case, Zareen Khan has repeatedly failed to appear before the Sealdah court or apply for bail. Due to her absence, the court has now issued an arrest warrant against the actress.

Zareen has denied having any clarity on the matter. She stated she would consult her lawyer to understand the situation better.

Police and Organizers Share Different Accounts

According to the police, Zareen was informed about the nature of the events in advance. She initially agreed to attend, but later cited miscommunication over logistics as a reason for not showing up.

The organizers, on the other hand, allege she intentionally skipped the events without notice. They say all the necessary arrangements were made for her attendance.

What Lies Ahead for the Actress

With an arrest warrant now issued in her name, Zareen Khan faces potential arrest, police custody, and interrogation if she returns to West Bengal.

To avoid arrest, she would need to apply for anticipatory bail or appear before the court to seek bail. If she fails to do so, the police can take her into custody for questioning whenever she enters the state.

The actress was last seen in the 2021 film Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele. She debuted in Bollywood with the 2010 film Veer and has also appeared in movies like Housefull 2, Hate Story 3, Aksar 2 and 1921. It remains to be seen how this legal case impacts her acting career going forward.
