Bengaluru IT Engineer Arrested for Allegedly Sending Extortion Threats to Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor

Mumbai Police have arrested a Bengaluru-based IT engineer for allegedly sending threatening messages to several Bollywood actors, including Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor. The arrest was made on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch.

What Happened

According to reports citing police, the accused is a 30-year-old man named Vaibhav Mishra, who works as an IT engineer in Bengaluru. Police say he allegedly sent threatening messages to Ayushmann Khurrana and other actors through Instagram. He is also accused of sending an audio message to Tusshar Kapoor demanding ₹5 crore.

The messages reportedly came days after Tusshar Kapoor approached the police with the audio clip. After the actors reported the threats, officers began tracing the sender through his online profile and technical information, which led them to Bengaluru. Reports say he is being brought to Mumbai for questioning.

No Link to the Gang Established

Reports say the messages were sent in the name of a well-known criminal gang. Police have said, however, that at this stage nothing suggests the accused has any connection to that gang. An officer said the question would be examined only after he is interrogated.

That distinction matters. According to reports, the sender appears to have used a frightening name to make his threats more believable, and investigators have not found evidence that he was acting on anyone’s behalf.

The Backdrop

The arrest follows a tense period for the film industry. On October 18, shots were fired at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area, and a number of threats involving film personalities have been reported since. Hindustan Times, as relayed by other outlets, reports that police believe the accused may have tried to exploit the climate of fear that followed. That is the reporters’ reading of events and not a confirmed finding.

What We Don’t Know Yet

The reports do not say which sections of law the accused has been booked under, how many actors received messages, or whether anyone else is involved. Police are expected to share more once he has been questioned. The accused is under arrest and has not been convicted, and the allegations against him have yet to be tested in court.

Why This Matters

Threats and extortion attempts against public figures can cause real fear, and fake threats can add to that fear while diverting police attention. The quick tracing of the sender in this case shows how investigators can follow digital trails, and it is a reminder for anyone who receives threats to report them to the police rather than respond.

What Happens Next

Watch for the outcome of the questioning, the charges that are formally registered, and whether any link to others emerges. Until police confirm more, the safest reading is the one they have given: an arrest in an extortion case, with no established connection to any gang.
