John Wick: Chapter 4 Review, The Movie Leaves Audience Flabbergasted with Violence

The most anticipated comeback from the series of the violently charming John Wick has finally hit the screens of India on 24th March 2023. John Wick: Chapter 4 has left the audience flabbergasted with the brutal violence and Keanu Reeves’s acting.

That’s not even the crazy part, talking about the movie; the release in Indian screens was a surprise as this film was released amid Tu Jhoothi Me Makaar and Ant Man: Quantumania.

No massive billboards, no influencer marketing campaigns on social media, not even the required Tweets from PVR Pictures promoting the tickets to one of the coolest action heroes with fanfare?

John Wick’s Special Element

The thing which makes this movie a great hit is John Wick’s brutal element. Because given the fact that he is the best killer in the world even though there are a lot of them.

Or if he finds a way to cause his friends, who are merciless killers in a cruel world, to second guess their actions and act against their own survival? It doesn’t matter if it’s Hiroyuki Sanada playing Shimazu (the manager of the Osaka Continental) in this movie, Halle Berry as Sofia Al-Azwar in Chapter 3, or Ian McShane as Winston.

Even the adoring gaze of the late, great The Concierge by Lance Riddick. In a world where it is demanded that compassion be absent, John encourages it.

The Real Action Pack?

The original John Wick movie focused simply on getting retribution, and the manner it handled the action scenes as a whole astounded everyone.

John Wick returned action to where it belonged, to solid punches and the OG fight scenes which gives the audience literal Goosebumps. At a period when CGI and green screen were prominent in many films.

The Plot Twist

For John (the incomparable, beautifully interior Keanu Reeves), things have progressed from where they were left at the end of Chapter 3 to being at war with The High Table. John made the decision to break his deal with The Table and support Winston at the conclusion of the last film.

After barely surviving, he was then shot by Winston and thrown off the top of the New York Continental. He nearly lost his life by choosing friendship. Chapter Four develops this idea repeatedly, constant implications of friendship.

John’s Attack Spree

John is on the attack. Since the first movie, we haven’t witnessed an intentionality in his acts or kill total. He’s not in the same position as in Chapters 2 and 3 where it’s kill or be killed. Here, Keanu’s eyes have an even stronger expression of an icy, furious emptiness.

It’s as if what little humanity he still has was waning. Returning is Baba Yaga. He is also seeking revenge. But the few friends and allies he has left keep asking him, “What’s your endgame?” throughout the movie.

The Cast

Other than the stunning Keanu Reeves the cast also includes pop diva Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Ian McShane, and Lawrence Fishburne in addition to Reeves. While Wick is the focal point of the chaos, these secondary roles make his blood-soaked murdering more entertaining.

Cinematography and is it Better than the Previous Sequences?

In terms of storytelling, plot turns, and the spine-chilling action scenes, the movie manages to transcend its opening chapters. John Wick is a reminder of why its lead actor Keanu Reeves is actually the torch-bearer of the best action movies ever in a genre that has become a rare species.

John Wick has progressed considerably for a person who was initially offended by the death of a pet. This movie was shot all throughout the breath-taking landscapes of Europe.
