Karan Johar Drops Release Date for Highly Anticipated Series “Showtime”
Mumbai’s beloved director and producer Karan Johar recently thrilled fans by announcing the release date for his latest project – an edge-of-your-seat series titled “Showtime.” Slated to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8, 2024, the show promises a peek behind the glamorous curtain of the entertainment industry.
A Star-Studded Cast
Leading the pack is thriller genre favourite Emraan Hashmi, joined by the talented Mouni Roy, Shriya Saran, Naseeruddin Shah, and Rajeev Khandelwal among others. Johar described the series as entangled in the struggle for power while crossing boundaries. It seems viewers can expect an electrifying exploration of the less-than-perfect underbelly beneath all the glitz and glamour.

To keep anticipation simmering, the director gave fans a special treat – a behind the scenes video packed with enticing glimpses of the talent in action. Snippets show the cast hard at work running lines, rehearsing intricate dance numbers, filming scenes, and clearly having an absolute ball together in between takes with contagious camaraderie.
One sequence shows Hashmi whizzing down the street on a motorcycle, then joking around with co-stars on an elaborate musical set. Johar himself makes a cameo appearance cheering the production on with his trademark flair. The video is rounded out by playful captions emphasizing that the crew always makes sure to bring the drama, intrigue, laughter, and fun – all captured by 30 cameras at once.

Showtime’s Showrunners
Helmed by director Sumit Roy and showrunner Mihir Desai, Showtime comes from Johar’s digital media and film production house Dharmatic Entertainment. Since launching the subsidiary in 2018, Dharma has produced a string of successful Netflix shows like “Guilty” and “The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives.”
With Desai’s extensive TV background including popular series like “Bade Achhe Lagte Hain” and Roy’s mastery of mystery-thrillers like “Kaun” under their combined belt, Showtime is undoubtedly in very capable hands.
What Fans Can Expect
Johar emphasized that Showtime will draw viewers into a behind-the-scenes realm beyond the typical glamour – showcasing both the incredible highs and challenging lows. The drama portrays protagonists willing to go to any lengths in the name of art while highlighting that the path to success is seldom linear.
Roy revealed the series will realistically depict the intoxicating “circus” of the entertainment scene. So it seems there will be no holding back on exposing the industry’s dark and gritty underbelly. With sparks guaranteed to fly between the powerhouse leads caught up in this vortex, Showtime promises to be 2024’s must-see show.
