New Releases This Weekend: Udta Teer, Tu Hai Meri Kiran and More in Theatres and on OTT
After a delay of two weeks, Udta Teer has finally arrived, and it isn’t alone. Nine films open in theatres this Friday, October 23, and streaming adds three notable Hindi titles of its own. Here’s what’s out, who it’s for, and how to pick.
In Theatres
Udta Teer (spy comedy)
This is the headline release. Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan lead a spy comedy directed by Akash Kaushik, with Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose and Mukul Dev in the cast. It’s produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, and is pitched as a family-friendly caper where one spy accidentally upends the whole game. It runs 2 hours 18 minutes and was originally set for October 9 before moving to this week. Pick it for a family outing or a light, crowd-pleasing night.
Tu Hai Meri Kiran (psychological romance-thriller)
Sonakshi Sinha plays Kiran Mittal, a writer dealing with personal and relationship difficulties, opposite Zaheer Iqbal, with Sherlin Seth and Zarina Wahab in the cast. It’s the weekend’s pick for viewers who want something darker and more intense than a comedy.
Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar (romcom)
A youthful romantic comedy directed by Anuj Saini and starring Alisha Chopra, Sparsh Walia, Sakshi Vaidya, Kunal Vaid and Sargun Kaur Luthra. Friends who studied together reunite and the gap between old feelings and adult reality creates plenty of comic awkwardness. It features an Arijit Singh song, “Purane Din,” and Bollywood Hungama reports a surprise cameo by Rajkummar Rao. It suits a date night or a group of friends.
More worth knowing
Pyre is Vinod Kapri’s quiet Himalayan drama about an ageing couple waiting for their children to return, starring two first-time actors aged 80 and 70 from Uttarakhand. It’s the one to see if you prefer small, human stories. Tum Mere Ho features Gurmeet Choudhary and Isha Malviya, and Doosra is a sports drama that has also been in the news after the Delhi High Court reportedly refused a plea to stay its release. On the Hollywood side, Clayface is DC Studios’ first horror film in its new universe, directed by James Watkins. Regional options include Titans, which reunites Vinayakan and Jayasurya.
On Streaming
Gajab Raat (Netflix)
Manoj Bajpayee and Nushrratt Bharuccha star in a crime drama directed by Ritesh Shah and produced by Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks. Bajpayee’s character is drawn into a web of crime, secrets, conflicting testimonies and bribes, and forced to confront his conscience. It’s a digital-only release.
Chaar Yaar (Prime Video)
A series set in early-2000s Mumbai about four struggling friends, Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer, whose lives take a dangerous turn when they get involved with heists and gangsters. Their friendship is tested as the stakes rise.
Sumo Didi (ZEE5)
A sports drama about Hetal Dave, India’s first female sumo wrestler, starring Shriyam Bhagnani. An early review calls her performance sensational, making this the feel-good streaming pick of the weekend.
