Pritam and Pedro: Everything You Need to Know About Rajkumar Hirani’s OTT Debut on JioHotstar

Bollywood has seen directors make the jump to OTT before — but when Rajkumar Hirani finally does it, the whole industry pays attention. The man behind Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., 3 Idiots, and PK is bringing his signature warmth, humour, and storytelling to the streaming world with Pritam and Pedro, and going by the buzz around the trailer, it is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Hindi web series of 2026.

Here is everything you need to know before it drops.

What is Pritam and Pedro About?

Set against the sun-soaked, chaotic backdrop of Goa, the series follows two wildly mismatched individuals who are forced to work together under the most unlikely circumstances.

Pedro (played by Arshad Warsi) is an old-school, instinct-driven crime branch officer who gets transferred to the cyber cell as a punishment posting. Surrounded by screens and tech jargon he barely understands, he is visibly out of his depth — and not particularly happy about it.

Enter Pritam Parker (played by Vir Hirani), a sharp, tech-savvy ethical hacker who operates by logic, data, and digital precision. Think of it as danda versus data — two completely different ways of seeing the world, forced into the same room.

Together, the duo gets pulled into a high-stakes kidnapping case involving a politician’s son. And lurking at the centre of it all is a shadowy, dangerous cybercriminal played by none other than Vikrant Massey — who seems to be the mastermind pulling strings from the shadows.

What begins as a comedy of errors soon spirals into something far more complex and unpredictable, with shifting loyalties, emerging secrets, and escalating threats. Classic Hirani territory, just with a digital twist.

The Origin Story: A Lockdown Phone Call That Changed Everything

Here is something most people do not know — this series was born out of a random phone call during the COVID lockdown.

Rajkumar Hirani revealed at a promotional event that he received a call from the head of the Mumbai Cyber Cell suggesting a film on cybercrime. Nobody was seriously exploring the subject at the time. Hirani took up the idea, began researching from home, and connected with Amit Dubey — a well-known cybersecurity expert who handed him a collection of short stories, including the books Hidden Files and Return of the Trojan Horse.

One story eventually grew into an entirely new, original narrative, and Pritam and Pedro was born. Sometimes the most interesting projects come from the most unexpected starting points.

The Cast: A Goldmine of Talent

Arshad Warsi as Pedro

If there is one actor in Bollywood who can make you laugh and keep you hooked at the same time, it is Arshad Warsi. After delivering back-to-back entertaining performances in Jolly LLB 3 and The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, he steps into the shoes of Pedro — an officer drowning in a world he does not understand. The character has Warsi’s comic timing written all over it, but with enough depth to keep things interesting.

Vir Hirani as Pritam

This is arguably the most talked-about aspect of the series. Vir Hirani, son of Rajkumar Hirani, makes his acting debut as Pritam Parker. Stepping into the spotlight alongside veterans like Arshad Warsi and Vikrant Massey is no small thing, and early reactions suggest he holds his own impressively well. Vir himself has spoken about how every single day on set felt like a masterclass — watching Arshad’s effortless humour, Vikrant’s meticulous detail work, and Mona Singh’s natural warmth.

Vikrant Massey as the Antagonist

After playing sympathetic, deeply human characters across so much of his career, Vikrant Massey leans into something new here — the role of a mysterious, dangerous cybercriminal. He has openly said he was glad to break away from the “gaav ka gareeb” archetype, and from the trailer, it is clear this role gives him room to go places audiences have not seen him go before. Interestingly, Massey also admitted at the trailer launch that he has personally been a victim of cybercrime — his social media accounts were hacked, and money was fraudulently taken from his wife’s account more than once. There is something fitting about that.

The Supporting Ensemble

The series is packed with familiar faces who bring their own weight to the story. Mona Singh, Boman Irani, Satyadeep Mishra, Shruti Marathe, and Rajesh Sharma all appear in key supporting roles — giving the show the kind of ensemble backbone that allows its lead characters the freedom to shine.

The Director: Avinash Arun

While Rajkumar Hirani serves as creator and producer, the series is helmed by Avinash Arun — a filmmaker whose quiet, assured body of work demands more attention than it usually gets.

Arun directed Paatal Lok (2020), one of the most critically celebrated Indian web series of recent years, and has also worked on School of Lies and the acclaimed film Three of Us. As a cinematographer, his credits include Masaan, Drishyam, Madaari, and Hichki — all films known for their visual sensitivity.

The combination of Hirani’s storytelling philosophy and Arun’s atmospheric directorial sensibility is genuinely exciting. One brings warmth and crowd appeal; the other brings precision and depth. Arun himself has described the show as one that constantly surprises you — humorous and chaotic on the surface, but deeply rooted in human emotion beneath.

Why This One Feels Different

There is a specific kind of storytelling that Rajkumar Hirani has made his own over the decades. His films are never just about the plot — they are about the people in it, their contradictions, their vulnerabilities, and the strange relationships that form when life pushes them together.

Pritam and Pedro follows that same philosophy. At its heart, it is not really a cybercrime thriller. It is a story about two people from completely different worlds finding a way to work together, understand each other, and get through something neither of them could handle alone. Hirani himself said exactly this at the trailer launch, pointing to the central relationship as the thing that excited him most about the project.

The Goa setting adds its own flavour — vibrant, colourful, slightly unhinged, and oddly perfect for a story where nothing goes according to plan.

What the Trailer Tells Us

The trailer does a smart job of not revealing too much. It establishes the tone — equal parts comedy and tension — and introduces the core characters with enough personality to make you curious about where each of them goes.

The chemistry between Arshad Warsi and Vir Hirani is immediately visible and genuinely fun. Their contrasting energies create the kind of push-and-pull dynamic that keeps buddy stories compelling. Vikrant Massey, meanwhile, appears in brief but loaded glimpses, hinting at a role that is more layered than a straightforward villain.

The trailer also nodded to real cybercrime awareness — at the trailer launch, Amit Dubey reportedly demonstrated a live phone hack in front of the audience, showing just how disturbingly easy it can be. The series seems aware of this responsibility too, threading its fictional thriller with genuine concern for the very real digital threats people face every day.

Release Date, Platform, and Where to Watch

Pritam and Pedro premieres on JioHotstar on July 3, 2026.

Final Thoughts: Should You Be Excited?

Honestly? Yes.

Between Rajkumar Hirani finally making his OTT debut, Arshad Warsi returning to the kind of role he does better than almost anyone, Vikrant Massey going fully against type, and a first-time lead actor stepping into the middle of all of it — this series has earned its anticipation.

Whether it becomes a blockbuster streaming hit or simply a well-crafted, enjoyable watch, Pritam and Pedro represents something genuinely interesting happening in Hindi content right now: a filmmaker who built his reputation on big-screen magic deciding that the small screen is ready for him — and bringing an entire universe with him when he arrives.

Mark your calendars. July 3 cannot come soon enough.
