Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya – An Unconventional Romantic Comedy That Falls Short

The recently released sci-fi romantic comedy “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” tries to bring an unusual love story between a human and a robot to the big screen. Directed by the debutant duo of Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, the film stars Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. While the film is being praised for attempting something new, most reviews indicate that it fails to leave a lasting impact.

A Promising Yet Flawed Premise

The premise of a human falling in love with an intelligent female robot named SIFRA (Kriti Sanon) sounds novel and intriguing at first. SIFRA has been designed to be the perfect companion capable of detecting human emotions and catering to one’s needs. Shahid Kapoor plays Aryan, the robot creator’s nephew, who tricked into testing SIFRA. As the initial scenes unfold, and the characters share steamy moments, you are drawn into this unconventional romance.

However, as the plot progresses, the flawed screenplay and inconsistent narrative make it increasingly hard to relate to the on-screen couple or be invested in their fate. The situational humor falls flat, and the loud, exaggerated reactions of the supporting cast feel repetitive.

Strong Lead Performances Go Wasted

Both Shahid and Kriti showcase tremendous conviction in portraying the unconventional couple on a tricky journey. Kriti seamlessly brings alive the robot persona through subtle gestures and body language. At the same time, her grace leaves your heart fluttering in every scene. On the other hand, Shahid channels his irresistible charm and goofiness in playing along sincerely to the bizarre happenings around his character. The lead pair share great chemistry which makes you wish the film was better written to do justice to their performances.

The Final Word

The critics have unanimously agreed that Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is bogged down by the flaws in its unrealistic storyline and forced humor. It is a robot romance with its wires severely tangled from having lofty goals but limited writing finesse. The film remains barely watchable for Shahid-Kriti’s chemistry and dedicated acts. For the discerning viewer, it turns out to be a lackluster experience with only a few takeaways in the form of songs and final climax.
