Veteran Actor Mithun Chakraborty Hospitalized After Suffering a Stroke

Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty was hospitalized in Kolkata on Saturday after suffering a stroke. The 73-year-old actor was admitted to Apollo Hospital and is currently under observation.

Background and Acting Career

Mithun Chakraborty, affectionately called “Mithun Da” by fans, is a National Award winning actor who has had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in the Indian film industry. He made his acting debut with the art-house drama Mrigayaa in 1976 which won him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

Some of his most popular films include Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Prem Pratigyaa, Surakshaa, Boxer, Pyaar Jhukta Nahi, Agneepath and Ghar Ek Mandir. Known for his dancing skills and unique style, Mithun became one of the biggest superstars of the 80s delivering multiple blockbuster films. He later transitioned into character roles in the 90s and 2000s with acclaimed performances in films like Tahader Katha, Jallad and Guru.

Entry into Politics

In 2014, Mithun Chakraborty joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed as a Rajya Sabha MP. He campaigned for BJP during the high-voltage West Bengal Assembly Elections in 2021 sharing stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground rally in Kolkata.

Health Update

According to the medical bulletin issued by Apollo Hospital, the actor was brought in with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs. He was diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident i.e. stroke.

Mithun Da is currently conscious and receiving treatment under the supervision of a team of doctors including a neurophysician, cardiologist and gastroenterologist. He has been able to consume soft diet. Further evaluation tests are being conducted to determine the cause and extent of the stroke.
