Veteran Character Actor Rio Kapadia Breathes his Last At 66
Veteran actor Rio Kapadia, known for his work in films like Chak De! India and Happy New Year, breathed his last today at the age of 66. He passed away at 12:30 pm due to age-related health issues.
Kapadia has left behind his wife Maria Fara and two sons Aman and Veer. His last rites will be held tomorrow at 11 am at Shiv Dham crematorium in Mumbai.
The Kapadia family issued an official statement informing about the demise of the celebrated actor. Rio, who began his career in the 80s, was last seen playing the role of Mrunal Thakur’s on-screen father in the web series Made In Heaven in 2019.
Noteworthy Performances
Rio Kapadia was known for his impactful supporting roles in Hindi films. Some of his most memorable performances came in Dil Chahta Hai, Chak De! India, Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke and Mardaani among others.
In Chak De! India, starring Shah Rukh Khan, he played the role of a commentator praising the coach and his team. He was also seen as Mrunal Thakur’s strict but caring father in Made In Heaven, which garnered him praise from critics.

TV Shows And More
Besides films, Kapadia also acted in popular TV serials like Mahabharat, Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke and Bandini. He also acted in web series City of Dreams (12 Episodes / Hotstar OTT). His contribution to Indian cinema and television spanned over three decades.
Several social media users and celebrities took to Twitter to offer condolences on his demise. Director Shoojit Sircar, who worked with him in Madras Cafe, tweeted, “Saddened by the demise of one of my favourite actors Rio Kapadia. A brilliant actor and a wonderful human being. Will miss you dear friend.”
The veteran actor’s demise is a huge loss for the Indian entertainment industry. Rio Kapadia will be fondly remembered for his impactful body of work in films and television.
