Alia Bhatt Brings Festive Glam to Mumbai’s North Bombay Durga Puja Pandal in a Bengali-Style Saree
Mumbai’s biggest Durga Puja celebrations are never short on star power, and this year’s North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal has had a very familiar pair of visitors. On Monday, October 19, Alia Bhatt stopped by the pandal in a traditional Bengali look, just two days after her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, made a lively appearance of his own.
The Look
Alia kept her Navami outfit rooted in Bengali tradition. She wore a pink saree with a contrasting blue blouse, draped in the classic Aatpoure style, a draping associated with Bengali festive wear. Reports describe the saree as fuchsia pink, though a few outlets call the shade red. The rich base colour and the pink border were paired with gold jewellery, and she tied her hair in a neat bun decorated with flowers, a finishing touch that completed the festive picture.
Some fashion watchers noted that the red-and-blue pairing recalled her traditional look in RRR, which is why the outfit has drawn so much attention on social media.

A Darshan, Rituals and Plenty of Selfies
Alia arrived in the afternoon with her close friend, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, who helped ensure she had a smooth darshan. She offered prayers and took part in the aarti, and despite the large crowd, she happily posed for selfies with excited devotees, some of whom were friends and acquaintances. An organizer said she took part in the traditional rituals gracefully.
Ranbir’s Turn at the Mic
Alia’s visit followed Ranbir Kapoor’s brief appearance at the same pandal a couple of days earlier. In videos that went viral, Ranbir was seen on stage with a microphone as singer Harshdeep Kaur performed “Kabira.” He joined in and even turned the microphone toward the audience to encourage them to sing along. It was a warm, playful moment, and the couple’s back-to-back visits made the pandal a talking point this week.
Why This Pandal Draws the Stars
The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity pandal has long been one of the city’s most celebrity-friendly festival venues. In past years, visitors have included Rani Mukerji, Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Kiara Advani, with Rani Mukerji famously performing the Sindoor Khela ritual on the final day. For the Mukerji family and many in the industry, the pandal is a yearly tradition rather than a photo opportunity.
What Comes Next
Durga Puja celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura and culminates on Vijayadashami, the tenth day. With the festival still underway, expect more film-industry visits to the pandal in the coming days.
The Takeaway
It’s a simple but pleasing festive moment: a classic Bengali drape, a warm turnout of fans, and a couple who have turned one pandal into a shared celebration. For anyone looking for festive saree inspiration, Alia’s red-and-blue combination is a good place to start.
