Alia Bhatt is Taking the Stage With Rami Malek and Sachin Tendulkar – And It’s Not for a Film

For once, Alia Bhatt’s next big appearance has nothing to do with a movie release. On November 17, she’ll step onto the stage in Mumbai as a presenter at The Earthshot Prize 2026 Awards Night, sharing the spotlight with Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and British actress Simone Ashley. It’s a different kind of red carpet moment, and the significance of it extends well beyond who’s attending.

What Exactly is the Earthshot Prize?

Founded by Prince William in 2020, The Earthshot Prize is built around a simple but ambitious goal: driving a decade of environmental action by identifying and supporting solutions to the planet’s most urgent ecological problems. The prize is structured around five specific challenge areas: protecting and restoring nature, cleaning the air, reviving the oceans, building a waste-free world, and fixing the climate.

This year’s ceremony marks a genuine milestone. It’s the first time the Earthshot Prize Awards Night is being held in India, and Mumbai has been chosen to host it.

A Guest List That Spans Film, Sport and Music

Alia Bhatt will be one of the night’s presenters, handing out one of the five Earthshot awards. She’s joined by an unusually wide-ranging lineup: Rami Malek and Simone Ashley representing international film and television, Sachin Tendulkar bringing global sporting stature, and singer Shreya Ghoshal set to perform live during the evening. Karan Johar will host the ceremony, while Earthshot Ambassadors Robert Irwin and Nomzamo Mbatha are also expected to take part. Sonam Kapoor has been named among the attendees as well.

Around 5,000 guests are expected to fill the venue, making it, by organizers’ own description, the biggest and most ambitious Earthshot Prize ceremony to date.

Why Alia Bhatt’s Involvement Stands Out

In her official statement, Bhatt framed her participation around the idea of hope paired with action. “The Earthshot Prize is really about hope… but hope that comes with ideas, action and people who are finding new ways forward,” she said, adding that she found real meaning in Mumbai bringing together people from around the world working on environmental solutions. “I’m proud that India gets to be part of this moment,” she said.

That framing matters. Celebrity involvement in environmental causes can sometimes read as symbolic rather than substantive, but hosting the ceremony’s first-ever India edition in Bhatt’s home city, with her stepping into a presenter role rather than a passive guest spot, gives her appearance a more tangible connection to the event’s purpose.

A Truly Global Broadcast

For the first time, the Earthshot Prize ceremony will stream globally on Prime Video, reaching audiences across more than 240 countries and territories in over 40 languages. That scale turns what might otherwise be a regional event into genuine international exposure, both for the environmental solutions being honoured and for Mumbai itself as a host city on the world stage.

Rami Malek summed up the broader spirit of the evening in his own statement, describing the Earthshot finalists as representing “stories of hope” and people showing that meaningful change remains possible.

Why This Story Matters Beyond the Guest List

It’s easy to read a story like this as just another glamorous event announcement, but the details here point to something a little different. A major global environmental initiative choosing India, and Mumbai specifically, for its first appearance outside its usual circuit is a notable statement in itself. Pairing that with a lineup spanning Bollywood, Hollywood, and international cricket signals an effort to make environmental advocacy feel broadly relatable rather than confined to any one industry or audience.

What to Expect on November 17

With the ceremony streaming to a worldwide audience and a guest list built to cross cultural and professional lines, the Earthshot Prize 2026 Awards Night in Mumbai is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched global events hosted in India this year, not for its celebrity wattage alone, but for what it’s ultimately trying to spotlight: real solutions to the planet’s biggest environmental challenges.
