Chennai Floods: How Ajith Kumar Lent Support to Aamir Khan and Vishnu Vishal

When torrential rains battered Chennai earlier this week, leading to massive floods across the city, thousands were left stranded in their homes without electricity, internet or phone connectivity. Among them were Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal, who were stuck in their villa community in Karapakkam along with over 30 other residents. As the flood waters kept rising, breaching the first floors of homes, they desperately put out requests to be rescued on social media.

Help Arrives, Bringing Them to Safety

Responding swiftly to their SOS calls, Chennai’s Fire and Rescue Department dispatched boats on December 5 to ferry the stranded residents in Karapakkam to safety. Khan, Vishal and others expressed immense gratitude to the rescue teams for their timely efforts in bringing them and others in the community to dry land, despite the challenging conditions.

In a heartwarming photograph shared online by Vishal, the two actors were seen with the rescue officers on one of the boats, clearly relieved to have made it out alive from the harrowing situation.

Ajith Kumar Reaches Out to Lend Support

After news of their rescue spread, Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar, known for his humanitarian efforts during calamities, got in touch with the actors to check in on them. He met Khan and Vishal and made arrangements for them as well as other members of their villa community to travel out of the city to safer locations.

Vishal shared a picture with Ajith and Khan on social media, thanking the star for his gesture of care and support. “The ever helpful Ajith Sir came to check in on us and helped with travel arrangements for our villa community members…Love you Ajith Sir!” he wrote.

Minister Lauds Actors’ Conduct During Crisis

Applauding Khan and Vishal for their grounded conduct, TRB Rajaa, Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Industries, noted how the actors waited patiently for their turn to be rescued without seeking any special treatment despite their celebrity status.

He praised Khan in particular for showing sensitivity towards the struggles of common people during the floods. Rajaa highlighted how Khan didn’t pull any strings for preferential treatment and lined up calmly with others from his community during rescue efforts.

Background of Crisis

Chennai has been experiencing extreme rainfall over the past few days due to Cyclone Michaung’s effects on the coastal region. With reservoirs and lakes already brimming over capacity, the fresh bout of heavy rains led to unprecedented flooding across the city.

Several low-lying areas were completely inundated, cutting off road access. Hundreds were left stranded in their homes without basic amenities like power, water, and communication networks.

Authorities Brace for Aftermath

Rescue operations are still underway in many parts of Chennai and its suburbs to evacuate citizens from heavily flooded areas. Over 100 relief camps have also been set up to provide shelter, food and medical aid.

The Met department has warned of isolated heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days. Disaster response teams are preparing to deal with the aftermath of michaung, as normal life remains disrupted across Chennai.

Humanitarian Efforts Continue

In times of such dire crisis, stories like Ajith’s efforts to help Aamir and Vishal provide a glimmer of hope. By supporting the stranded actors and others in their community, Ajith displayed the same humanitarian spirit that Chennaiites are known to exhibit whenever floods or other natural disasters strike their city.

Many citizens are also pitching in to gather food, water, medicines and other relief material for distribution among the thousands still marooned in low-lying slums and streets. Fishermen have been bravely aiding in impromptu evacuation efforts, rescuing people using their boats. Tales of people opening up their homes to accommodate strangers are also emerging.

Chennai’s residents have shown time and again that in the face of calamity, humanity prevails over all else. One can only hope normalcy returns soon even as authorities and civil society continue tireless efforts to rescue and rehabilitate those affected by the torrential downpour.
