Fans Set Off Firecrackers in Theatres During Tiger 3

The release of Salman Khan’s much-awaited film ‘Tiger 3’ was celebrated with enthusiastic fervor by fans across India on Diwali. However, some fans took the celebrations too far by setting off firecrackers inside packed theatres, endangering moviegoers and causing widespread panic.

Fans Burst Crackers in Malegaon Theatre

Videos emerged on social media showing fans setting off a lengthy round of firecrackers inside Mohan Cinema in Maharashtra’s Malegaon during a screening of ‘Tiger 3’. For over a minute, fireworks screeched and sparked through the theatre as smoke filled the hall. Shocked moviegoers scrambled for safety, hoping to avoid injury from the burning embers.

The unruly behavior prompted criticism online, with many calling it ‘risky’ and arguing that those responsible ‘should be charged with attempt to murder’. Police have initiated an investigation, charging the theatre owner under Section 112 at Chavani police station. Two individuals have also been apprehended so far.

Similar Incidents Reported in Other Theatres

Unfortunately, the incident in Malegaon was not an isolated one. Videos on social media showed Salman Khan fans setting off fireworks and rockets inside other theatres as well while watching the film. The enthusiastic, if reckless, celebrations marred the Diwali festivities surrounding the film’s release.

Salman Khan Urges Responsible Celebrations

Responding to the incidents, Salman Khan took to social media urging fans to celebrate the release of ‘Tiger 3’ responsibly, without endangering themselves or others. He wrote, “I’m hearing about fireworks inside theaters during Tiger 3. This is dangerous. Let’s enjoy the film without putting ourselves and others at risk. Stay safe.”

Khan’s plea highlights concerns over audience safety as overzealous fans get carried away in the excitement. It remains to be seen whether theatres will take extra precautions during screenings of major releases to prevent such episodes from recurring.

Tiger 3 Scores Big on Box Office Despite Controversies

The incidents, however, have not dampened the opening box office collections of ‘Tiger 3’. The film starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif had an impressive first day, earning over ₹44 crore.

Directed by Maneesh Sharma, ‘Tiger 3’ is the third installment in the popular ‘Tiger’ franchise and the fifth film in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe. Along with the lead pair, the movie also features Emraan Hashmi and cameos by Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

The movie released on Diwali alongside other major Bollywood releases like ‘Thank God’ and ‘Ram Setu’. However, Salman Khan’s star power and the ‘Tiger’ franchise’s popularity with the masses has ensured that the film dominates the box office despite the firecracker controversies.

Impact on Movie Theatre Business

The firecracker incidents have impacted the business of movie theatres screening ‘Tiger 3’. Several cinema halls reported lower than expected ticket sales as moviegoers avoided potential safety issues.

In addition, the costs of cleaning up debris and smoke damage have added to the financial burden. Some analysts estimate the episodes may have caused losses amounting to crores for the theatre industry.

Calls for Enhanced Movie Theatre Security

In light of the firecracker controversy, multiplex owners across India have called for increased security and checks to ensure audience safety.

Some theatre managers argue that police or private security deployment is essential during the screening of major film releases. There are also demands for legal penalties against those engaging in vandalism and reckless behavior.

However, enhanced security comes at a cost and it remains to be seen if theatres will be able to recover these expenses. For now, urgent action is required to reassure moviegoers and bring discipline back to the cinema halls.

The Need for Responsible Movie Celebrations

While Salman Khan’s appeal for responsible celebrations is welcome, it highlights a troubling trend of unruly fan behavior. Movie theatres need to be safe spaces for entertainment, not venues for hooliganism.

Strict screening procedures, increased security and penalties for violations can help tackle this issue. Celebrities also have a role to play in urging fans to express their love for cinema peacefully.

Here’s hoping the runaway success of ‘Tiger 3’ does not come at the cost of safety. For now, Salman Khan and movie theatres need to continue advocating responsible fandom. The show must go on, but not at the risk of life and property.
