Mission Majnu Review: Sidharth – Rashmika’s Spy Drama is Mediocre, Doesn’t Offer Anything New

The movie, Mission Majnu, recently released on Netflix, revolves around an Indian RAW agent in Pakistan who passes information about their nuclear program. Mission Majnu has the potential to be the best espionage thriller; however, Sidharth –Rashmika’s spy drama is mediocre and doesn’t offer anything new. The story, co-written by Aseem Arrora, Sumit Batheja, and Parveez Shaikh, screws up in many places and fails to live up to expectations. Too much ambiguity and confusion lead to a formulaic climax that still offers you some good moments. Let’s check out the complete review:

Storyline

“Mission Majnu” is another real-life inspired tale about an intelligence officer. Sidharth portrays Indian intelligence officer Amandeep Ajitpal Singh, who goes covert as Tariq to pass on state secrets about Pakistan’s nuclear capability to India.

Plot Analysis

Mission Majnu, established in the 1970s, portrays the story of Amandeep Ajitpal Singh, played by Sidharth, who is fed up with being called the son of a traitor and intends to clear his mother’s name. He’s on a secret mission to expose a nuclear weapons plan of Pakistan. He is accompanied by two more covert Indian intelligence agents, Kumud Mishra and Sharib Hashmi, whose chemistry lifts the movie. And obviously, there’s a love interest of Hero, this time the visually impaired Nasreen (Rashmika Mandanna), who has no idea about his task.

Star Performance Analysis

Sidharth Malhotra’s performance is okay, but definitely, it’s not the best performance due to poor scripting. Rashmika Mandanna’s only job is to attempt to establish chemistry with Sid. Sharib Hashmi and Kumud Mishra have more robust sequences and a defining character arc, which also needs to keep the movie dull.

Direction Analysis

The direction of Shantanu Bagchi is mediocre. Although he has succeeded in getting a fine job out of his actors, he has not been able to amuse the audience or instill patriotic emotions in them. Mission Majnu is a usual movie with an average album and background score. The production values, particularly the set design, appear to be fabricated. The theme had the excellent capability, but an attempt to maintain the concept authentically (via an unbelievable route) adversely affected its possibilities. There isn’t any captivating dialogue in the film.

Final Words

It’s a good thing it was released directly on an OTT platform because it wouldn’t have been able to convince audiences to go to the theatres.
