Sridevi, the iconic Bollywood superstar, passed away in 2018, but her legacy lives on through her timeless films, etching a permanent place in the hearts of millions worldwide. While her professional life is well-known, there’s a lesser-known story about her relationship with her sister, Srilatha. During the early days of Sridevi’s film career, her sister often accompanied her to movie sets.

Sridevi and Srilatha’s Back Story
Sridevi rose to stardom in the 80s, a time dominated by actresses like Hema Malini and Rekha. Sridevi’s illustrious career spanned over 300+ films. From 1972 to 1993, Srilatha was a familiar presence on nearly every one of Sridevi’s film sets. While she aspired to become an actress like her sister, Srilatha didn’t succeed in the industry and instead took on managing Sridevi’s career.
They reportedly had a strained relationship for over two decades, stemming from a significant compensation payment that Sridevi had to make to Srilatha and her husband.

Sridevi’s Mother’s Tragic Demise & Property Dispute with Sister
Following their mother’s tragic death in 1996 due to a medical mishap during an operation, a rift developed between the two sisters. Sridevi’s mother had been admitted to the hospital for treatment, but an unfortunate mistake by a doctor resulted in the loss of her memory. This heartbreaking incident compelled Sridevi to take legal action against the hospital.
Sridevi’s legal victory against the hospital offered her Rs 7.2 crore in compensation, but it caused a strain on her relationship with her sister.
Srilatha filed a lawsuit, claiming that their mother’s mental state led to the property transfer to Sridevi. In the end, Srilatha won the case and received Rs 2 crore. Despite efforts by Boney Kapoor to reconcile the sisters, Srilatha’s absence at Sridevi’s Chennai prayer meeting remained questionable after Sridevi’s passing.
