Sunny Deol Clarifies his “Drunk” Video is Actually ‘Safar’ Shoot
A video of veteran Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has gone viral on social media that shows him walking unsteadily on a Mumbai street, leading many to speculate that he was inebriated. However, Deol has now clarified that the viral video is actually a behind-the-scenes clip from the sets of his upcoming film ‘Safar’.
The video in question shows Deol, dressed casually in a white shirt and jeans, smile as he sways while walking down a street in Mumbai’s Juhu area on the night of December 5th. An auto-rickshaw driver then comes to his aid and offers him a ride. This perceived unstable gait led many on social media to allege that the actor seemed heavily drunk.
Sunny Deol Sets Rumors to Rest
However, Deol was quick to squash these rumors by sharing the video on his Twitter account, referring to it as a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his new film ‘Safar’, which translates to ‘Journey’.
“Afwaahon ka ‘Safar’ bas yahin tak (the journey of rumors ends here),” Deol tweeted, along with a folded hands emoji. He indicated that the speculation around his sobriety was false and that he was simply shooting for his upcoming project directed by Shashank Udrapurkar.

Several fan pages and Bollywood portals had previously revealed that Deol had commenced shooting for ‘Safar’ in Mumbai. Images from the film’s sets showing Deol sporting long hair and a beard have also surfaced online in recent weeks.

Deol’s Stance Against Alcohol Consumption
Moreover, Deol has repeatedly asserted in media interviews over the years that he abstains from drinking alcohol due to his inability to tolerate its taste and after-effects.
“It is bitter, has a foul smell and gives you a headache,” the 66-year-old actor had remarked about alcohol in a 2022 interview, expressing confusion at people enjoying drinking.
So, while the latest viral video may have shown Deol in a seemingly unstable state, it turns out it was merely a case of the veteran star dedicating himself to playing an authentic on-screen character for his new mystery project, ‘Safar’. The film seems to require Deol to portray an inebriated man roaming the streets of Mumbai.

Deol Riding High After ‘Gadar 2’ Success
On the work front, Sunny Deol has been enjoying a career revival following the thunderous box office success of ‘Gadar 2’, the sequel to his 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’.
Released in August 2023, ‘Gadar 2’ minted over ₹130 crores in India and more than ₹200 crores globally. Riding high on patriotic fervor and drama like its prequel, the film proved that Deol’s pairing with co-star Ameesha Patel still elicits nostalgia and applause from fans even 21 years later.
Now with ‘Safar’, the veteran actor seems set to deliver another interesting performance. Not much is yet known about the film’s plot or rest of the cast. But if the viral BTS video is anything to go by, Deol’s portrayal promises to impress in this upcoming project helmed by Udrapurkar, who has previously directed Marathi films like ‘Haravali Pakhare’ and ‘Wedding Cha Shinema’.
So while the sight of a beloved veteran star like Deol stumbling on the street may have caused concern and consternation among fans initially, the truth behind the viral footage has now allayed worries.
